Awake, awake

Awake, awake in the mausoleum.
I am again tomorrow
And the tombs of yesterday are demolished.

Unbolt the shuttered teeth
Unfurl the velvet ropes.

Powdered mummies
Evaporate into sunlight,
Not forgotten, but never there to forget.

Granulated trails
Beneath the gaze of the white horse.
Rattle the basins
To the ghost-water madrigals
The crackle of a hobnailed step
Under the eye of the black horse.

The mirror doors fly open
Salt tracks on silvered rust
Charted routes of the no longer dead.
